Davis passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026, at the home of a close friend in Lusby, Maryland, at the age of 85.
Born on September 8, 1940, in Ellamore, West Virginia, Everett Davis was the son of the late Wilford L. Davis and Valta Rowan Davis. Over the course of his life, he built a reputation as a hardworking and honorable man who valued family and community above all else.
Davis proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1964 to 1970, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his service, he earned several honors including the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. After his military service, he continued to dedicate his life to public service.
Following his time in the Army, Everett worked as a coal miner before beginning a long career in law enforcement. He served with the Metropolitan Police Department from 1970 to 1990 and later worked as a U.S. Marshal from 1990 to 1993, reflecting his commitment to protecting others and serving the public.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Davis was deeply cherished by his family. He is survived by his children Shane Davis, Jennifer Rohrbaugh, and Paula Puffinburger, as well as a step-son, Joseph Shunamon. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren and two great-granddaughters, along with a sister, nieces, nephews, and many extended family members who remember his humor and generosity.
Those closest to him recall a man with a lively sense of humor and a love for storytelling. He treasured spending time with his grandchildren and often entertained family and friends with memorable jokes and playful antics, including his well-known “taser cane,” which brought laughter to many gatherings.
A celebration of Everett Raymond Davis’s life will be held on March 14, 2026, at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon, West Virginia, with burial to follow at Mt. Union Cemetery accompanied by military honors from the Upshur County Honor Guard.
