A GIDANA

*First Page*

She swiftly finished applying her pink lipstick, pulled on her pants, checked her watch, grabbed her bag, opened the wardrobe, selected her outfit, and walked out.

As she entered the kitchen, she found the boy inside. Upon seeing her, he turned and asked, “Honey, are you ready to go?”

Rugumeshi approached him and replied, “I felt incredibly tired today; I could barely open my eyes.”

He smiled at her and kissed her on the cheek, saying, “Here’s your tea.”

She returned his kiss and expressed her gratitude, saying, “Thank you, love.”

“Did you forget that I’m supposed to drive you today?”
“Oh! Did I send the driver away?”

He shook his head and jokingly said, “Honey, don’t forget he’s a reliable driver. How many drivers have you fired?”

“Sit down, and I’ll explain.” She replied, turning around. He quickly grabbed her hand and added, “I forgot they were Basaj drivers.”

Harara said, “Am I known for being too demanding?”

“Nooo, who said that? Do I take action?”

She smiled and said, “Let me handle it myself. It’s easier.”

He retrieved his car keys from the top of the fridge and said, “Let’s go.”

They walked hand in hand out of the living room. As they passed through, they noticed Goggo sitting and observing the living room.

Rugumeshi asked, “Aunt, where is our driver?”

Goggo glanced at her and replied, “I forgot that you mentioned you’d lend me some money yesterday. Did you?”

“Oh, I forgot, but I’m Goggo, who are you waiting for?”

Fuska chimed in, “You don’t need to explain to me. If you can’t tell me, just say you can’t. What’s the point of arguing?”

Rugumeshi glanced at the clock and realized that time was slipping away. She said, “I’ll give it to him, and he’ll bring it to you.”

She quickly proceeded, “What about you, Auntie? Why can’t you wait for him to return? I need the money right now.”

Harara responded, “That’s your concern. Please bring me my money as it was given to you.”

He followed her as she rushed towards his car, quickly opened the door for her, and then went around to take the driver’s seat.

He started the car and drove away from the house.

One of the guards approached and glanced at him, asking, “Are you going to give the driver his money? I’ve noticed that the end of the month is approaching, and you’re heading to Goggo’s. You didn’t even ask her how much.”

He responded quickly, and she looked at him, saying, “Did you eat his money?”

He looked at her and smiled, and she continued, “I will send someone to collect it, but please, Honey, try to cut down on expenses.”

He looked at her sympathetically and uttered, “Mr. Honey.”

She smiled and held his hand with her other hand. After taking a sip of her tea, she let go and rummaged through her bag, taking out some papers and studying them closely.

He glanced at her and remarked, “When you’re calm and focused on work, you look so…”

Laughing at the data on her papers, she cut him off, saying, “Honey, find another driver.”

He replied, “Let’s wait and see who we find.”

She looked at him and said, “You’re starting this all over again, right? This could take 2 to 3 years.”

He laughed and said, “We can only hope, but where is this Honey of yours?”

She continued examining the documents in her hand, causing him to remain silent.

When they reached the parking lot, she looked at him and said, “Let me explain to you how you’re going to find him, you son of a driver.”

He responded, “Please do.”

She picked up her phone and tapped the cashier’s number. Then she grabbed her purse and exited the car. Just as she was about to enter the building, he called her. She turned around, and he quickly handed her the tea. She thanked him and showed him the cup, to which he replied, “You’re welcome.”

She entered the building and walked through the doors, greeting people as she passed by.

Upon entering her office, she set down her bag and the tea, and then she turned to leave. The team was preparing to enter the studio. She looked over at the staff members working diligently to ensure everything went smoothly and remarked, “Change the background; it’s too bright.”

They responded with an “Okay.”

She then glanced at the camera and asked, “What’s that? How many times have I mentioned that the contrast needs to be adjusted?”

The team member quickly replied, “I apologize; I’ll fix it right away.”

She sighed in relief and examined the lighting equipment. Satisfied that everything was in order, she checked the time and reminded them, “Be extra vigilant; the live show is about to start.”

They replied with “Okay.”
