One of the most serious incidents occurred in Indian River County near Vero Beach, where Florida Highway Patrol troopers launched an investigation into a fatal multi-vehicle crash on the northbound lanes of Florida’s Turnpike near Mile Marker 174 late Saturday night. Authorities said the deadly collision happened shortly after 10 p.m., just hours before Mother’s Day, leading to major traffic delays and emergency road closures.
Traffic monitoring systems later confirmed that portions of the northbound lanes near the crash scene remained affected as investigators worked to clear debris and reconstruct the accident.

Elsewhere in Orange County near Winter Garden, a rollover crash involving three vehicles shut down southbound lanes of Florida’s Turnpike earlier this week. According to Florida Highway Patrol, the collision involved a pickup truck hauling a trailer, a sedan, and a tractor-trailer. One person became trapped inside the sedan and was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center with injuries.
Palm Beach County drivers also experienced major delays after a crash with injuries forced temporary closures on the northbound side of the Turnpike between Okeechobee Boulevard and Bee Line Highway. Authorities reopened the roadway after emergency crews completed their response and removed damaged vehicles.
In Broward County, a separate tractor-trailer rollover crash near Hollywood Boulevard and Pines Boulevard blocked multiple lanes and left at least one person injured after the truck overturned near a waterway.
Additional crashes and roadway incidents continued appearing on Florida Highway Patrol traffic reports throughout the day, including lane blockages, disabled vehicles, and injury crashes in Miami-Dade, Orange, Broward, and Osceola counties.
