Alijah Arenas, the 18-year-old five-star basketball recruit and son of former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas, has been released from the hospital following a serious car accident in Los Angeles. The incident occurred on April 24, 2025, when Arenas lost control of his Tesla Cybertruck near Reseda, California, causing it to crash into a tree and fire hydrant before catching fire. Bystanders managed to rescue him from the vehicle, and he was subsequently hospitalized. Due to smoke inhalation, he was placed in a medically induced coma but was removed from it the following day. As of April 30, Arenas is reported to be “walking, talking, and progressing very well,” with no major injuries .
Arenas, who reclassified to the 2025 class and committed to play basketball at USC, is known for his exceptional high school career at Chatsworth High School, where he became the first boys’ player in the Los Angeles area to score over 3,000 career points . His family has expressed gratitude for the support received and requested privacy as he continues his recovery .
